All my paintings are framed according to each individual painting. The frames are gilded at my studio using the time honored method of water gilding. The process can take weeks for each frame to be completed. To begin the frames are painted with up to six layers of gesso. The gesso is the same formulation used by Renaissance artist some five hundred years ago. Once the gesso has been sanded then the clay or bole is layered on top. The clay is then sanded to a nearly perfect surface. After all this the frames can be gilded. Most frames are gilded with 23 karat gold leaf, however white gold and silver leaf are also used.

My frames come is two styles. The larger is a Florentine design and is 2 & 5/8s deep. The smaller frame is an American design and 1 & 3/8s deep.

I hope you will see the care and craftsmanship which goes into each frame. It is with reverence and respect for the past that I continue the practice of water gilding.
